As Hermia I would be angry about my father's opinion on who I should marry because he has not taken consideration how I feel and refuses to hear my side. I'm also irritated by his decision because he should care about whether or not I marry someone I love instead of having me marry someone just because he loves him. Even Lysander realizes this, saying to Demetrius, "You have her father's love, Demetrius;/ Let me have Hermia's; do you marry him" (1.2.95-96). My father also has yet to see who Lysander really is and why I love him. I am also appalled by his ease of having me killed because I won't marry Demetrius. I am his daughter and he should want to see me happy but how I feel is not important to him. My options are to marry Demetrius, become a nun, or be killed. I would prefer death over having to marry someone who I could never imagine my life with and who doesn't even care that he disgusts me. I also don't want to live as an outcast. Why can I not just marry Lysander? At least then I would be happy and the paradise of the world would be restored to me. If only my father could see how his decisions are not beneficial to either of us. If he loves Demetrius so much why doesn't he just marry him as Lysander has said.
Entry 2:
My favorite character so far is Theseus because he is the only character that is emotionally dispatched from the lover's quarrel. When Egeus goes to Theseus and states his problem, Theseus doesn't take sides he only abides by the law of Athens. He also appeals to Hermia's pleas and mentions that death or marrying Theseus is not he only option; she can also become a nun. Otherwise Theseus shows no favor to either sides and he handles the situation professionally by obeying the laws, as shown when he says to Hermia, "Take time to pause, and by the next new moon—/ The sealing day betwixt my love and me/ For everlasting bond of fellowship—/ Upon that day either prepare to die/ For disobedience to your father’s will,/ Or else to wed Demetrius, as he would,/ Or on Diana’s altar to protest/ For aye austerity and single life" (1.2.85-92). In the beginning of the play everyone is rushed with emotions about who Hermia will marry but Theseus would rather focus on his own personal life and upcoming nuptials then listen to the problems of others making his character very different from the others that are seen in act one scene one. Therefore, I prefer his character as compared tot the others because he is different and has a nonchalant view on the situation at hand because it is all unnecessary drama.
