Entry 1:
Oberon's idea of a good relationship is one in which the man has all of the authority. In the play Oberon struggled to maintain a happy marriage wife the fairy queen, Titania. This is because she refused to obey his wishes. This is shown when the two argue about Oberon's want to have Titania's changeling child in which Oberon says, "Am I not your lord?" (2.1.64). This displays that, because he is a male, Oberon feels that he is to have control in the relationship. Also throughout the novel it shows that Oberon believes his relationship would be bettered if Titania would obey his requests. Therefore, Oberon believes that in order to have a successful marriage the woman must be obedient to her husband. My idea of a good relationship varies greatly from Oberon's idea because I believe that a relationship should be equal. The equality in a relationship creates a base for success as each partner is able to openly discuss their needs and not feel dominated by their partner's beliefs and wants.
Entry 2:
In the play it is shown that Puck enjoys practical jokes. Puck's spell on the characters creates chaos, however it works as it is supposed to but not without him receiving benefit. When Puck is originally given instructions to put the spell onto Demetrius, he mistakes Lysander as his target. Lysander then awakes to Helena and falls in love with her, completely forgetting the promises he once made to Hermia. Puck, after realizing his mistake, tries to settle the problem by ensuring that Demetrius falls in love with Helena and Lysander goes back to Hermia. This chaos creates a comedic effect to the story as the audience watches the fairy incorrectly give the potion to certain characters, and as each character fights over love. For example, Helena and Hermia fight about Lysander's sudden affection to Helena. When fighting Helena says, " A, when she is angry, she is keen and shrewd;/ She was a vixen when she went to school;/ And, though she be but little, she is fierce" (3.2.335-337). This quote demonstrates one of the implications of the spell, where the spell tears the bonds that Helena, Hermia, Lysander, and Demetrius once had. However,in the end it is shown that the spell also created a happy ending for them.
